"Autumn in New York"
Photography; James Bleeker
Designed for a former New Yorker who comes here in the autumn season, the concept was to reference the glamour of the Art Deco period. A previous residence had an East River view, so we created a dreamy twilight mood transported to the 1930's. Artist John Palmer Smith captured a nostalgic fantasy mood of the river in the foyer of this Fifth Avenue apartment. A misty blues and gray palate evokes an autumn spirit of moody skies and crisp cool days. Contemporary custom seating was designed to complement the classic period furnishings. Fine Art Deco pieces flank a rare tobacco hued 18th Century Coromandel screen fronted by the bust of Heracles from classical Greek antiquity. A Chagall tapestry and a Calder mobile add an idiosyncratic modern aspect, adding an element of polished luxury. The bedroom, dressing room and walk in closet mill work finish references the 18th Century, inspired by a blue and gilt interior at the Metropolitan Museum.
